Mile markers Birth-7.5 Wks

I use to think that it was not a very fun thing to read the posts about what someone's kid was doing at such and such an age (and to be honest I still kind of do).  But now having a child of my own I realize that these posts are more for me to remember things than for other people to get enjoyment out of reading them.  So if you would like, keep reading.  But if you don't like those sort of posts (like me), feel free to click the little x on this tab and move on to someone else's blog :)


                                                                                                         

Days and weeks (and almost able to say months) have flown by.  In comparison to when we were waiting for his arrival where they day, hours, and minutes seemed to inch by so slowly.

 From the get go Kaiewa has been a wonderful baby.  He has always been so calm and content, so much so that the midwife had to rattle him a little while I was holding him the tub right after he was born because he didn't cry.  He latched on wonderfully within a half hour of being born and has been a pro-eater ever since.  It was me that had to get use to everything.

Not even a full day old

He really only cries to tell me he's hungry, he needs his diaper changed, he wants to be held, or he wants to go to sleep.  And he's been a great sleeper so far (and man am I crossing my fingers that it continues). The very first night (we only stayed at the birthing center for 4 hours and then got to go home) we had him sleep in our room in a bassinet. Tyler didn't sleep at all that night because he woke up at every little sound Kaiewa made (I knocked out of course). The next night we did the same, except this time it was me who was up at every sound, and Tyler slept.  So his third night my mom said to put him in his crib in her room and she would bring him to me to feed him when he woke up so both Tyler and I could get some sleep.  Well his third night and he slept a 4 or 5 hour stretch.  And at 7.5 weeks he's sleeping 7-9 hour stretches at night.  We have been so grateful and thank Heavenly Father because I KNOW that is not typical.  I think in the midst of all the chaos it was the blessing that he knew we needed because I know I wouldn't have been able to handle things at all if sleep deprivation was added on top of things.

We haven't started sleep training him because he does so well.  And we've tossed around a few ideas of things we'll do, but as of right now we just go with the flow. We aren't huge fans of having him sleep in the bed, mostly because we've heard it's hard to get them to sleep on their own if you do.  So either he sleeps in his crib, or if I'm too tired to hold him until he's asleep I let him fall asleep on me while we're laying on the couch.

Tyler is hoping that Kaiewa keeps growing.  At his 2 week appointment he was average for weight and head circumference, but in the 95% percentile for height (Tyler was elated! He hopes Kaiewa is tall like my brothers).  He has been such a long and lean little guy but with HUGE hands and feet.  Just recently he has started to get the typical chubby cheeks and fat thighs that babies normally have.

He started cooing at 5 weeks.  And now in the mornings is such the little chatter.  He sits there and just coos all the time.  He's starting to make little laughing sounds and has THE cutest smile.

He loves just laying on his changing pad to kick and squirm and wiggle.

                                                                        5.5 weeks

He does okay in the car, if he's awake he doesn't really like his carseat, but if he's tired at all, he'll knock out really fast.

He loves to stand and put weight on his feet.  He still wobbles a lot because he can't quite hold his head still.

4 Weeks

He only likes to suck on a pacifier to fall asleep after being awake for awhile.  Otherwise he spits it out or chews on it.

At first he loved to be rocked, swayed, or swung to sleep, and man did it give my arms a good work out.  Now he'll fall asleep just with me holding him.

During the day he takes naps on his tummy, and then at night sleeps on his back in true guy form of being all sprawled out and arms above his head. It's cute!

He loves sitting in the bath with the warm water around him and his fishy towel on top to keep him warm.

Unless he's tired, he really doesn't like being held facing your body. He wants to see the world and everything your looking at, so he likes to face out.

He absolutely LOVES going outside. We figured this out pretty quick because if he was the least bit fussy he would stop instantly once we were outside.

Around 4 weeks

At first I use to think that he really looked like Tyler and nothing like me.  But the older he gets the more I think he looks like me and the less he looks like Tyler.  He has Tyler's nose, but that's about it. His eyes are shaped like mine, and then he has my face shape. Tyler and I have the same ears, so I guess if Tyler wants to claim those he can :) He has my hands and feet, and I think he'll have the Kala height.  But I know he'll keep changing everyday, and grow more and more.




He hates getting the boogers sucked out, but of course loves being able to breath afterwards.

3.5 Weeks

He gets the hiccoughs like crazy. But never around the times he eats, just randomly.

He has the cutest little sneezes, and does just like his dad where he never sneezes just once, but multiple times in a row.

He took a bottle like a pro, well sort of.  Tyler hates to hear him cry more than I do, and he tried giving him a bottle for all of .2 seconds before he handed him to me because he was crying. Well he's hungry and this is new so of course he is gonna cry.  Just help him realize that there is food in there!  So after another try he took it fine.

We did do just bottles for 5 days or so to help with the thrush.  And when we went back to breastfeeding, it took him a little bit, but after two times he was back to normal.


He loves playing with his Daddy, who also loves to play with him.




He had fun dressing up in his Olympic outfits (well except swimming he wasn't wanting to take pictures that day). He already knew how to pose on his own for each one.  We didn't stage the pictures we got.  But obviously they were photo-shopped. :)

He was blessed on August 12th in Palmdale, CA. Tyler did a beautiful job. And we sneakily got so some of my family could listen by calling them on my phone and putting it on speaker and in Tyler's top suit pocket and they were quiet on their end because they muted the phone.
